The proper function of a man is to live, not to exist.
as I migrate from LinkedIn I'll repost some of the well received posts - this one had over 4000 hits
'The proper function of a man is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time'
Jack London American author 1876-1916
quoted by Ian Fleming in You only Live Twice and at the end of the film
No Time to Die.
I am still held by this image of the hand touching the water.
The moment of contact - a metaphor on waiting for inspiration.
Of course that is a myth.
You don’t wait for inspiration, you start and discover what you have today.
It is inspired.
It may not be world shattering, or even the best you can do, but it is an act of creation.
So much harder than all the excuses.
Moving forward is the act of faith.
I wrote a pair of companion pieces last year and posted as an article on LinkedIn (which was probably the wrong forum) just to ‘ship’ some risky thoughts, even some angry poetry!
The Pool of Bethesda and Jack London and Poetry - may have been too much!
The emotion lingers and I'm glad I shipped.
Finally there is anger here.
Waiting for the moment, what is fair about this?
Nothing happens for days, many days,
with time just passing by this still pool
